About the Vice Chancellor

Catherine C. Scroggs

Vice Chancellor Catherine C. Scroggs serves as a member of the chancellor’s staff and has administrative responsibility for all Student Affairs departments and units.

Scroggs earned a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, with a minor in secondary education, and a master’s degree in education, with an emphasis on personnel and guidance counseling, from Clemson University. She received her doctorate in higher-education administration from the University of Missouri.

Scroggs began her career in student affairs at Stephens College and came to MU in 1985 as the assistant director of Residential Life and Greek Life.

Since then, Scroggs has been the director of the Department of Student Life, the assistant to the vice chancellor for Student Affairs and the interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs. In January 2003 she was appointed vice chancellor for Student Affairs.

Students have selected her for membership in several campus honorary organizations, including Omicron Delta Kappa, the QEBH and LSV secret societies, and the Rollins Society.

Currently, Scroggs’ professional interests focus on the sophomore or second-year experience.  She continues to encourage innovative approaches to delivering programs and services to students, exploring the roles of women in leadership, and building collaborative programs between academics and student affairs.

Scroggs serves as co-chair of the 2008 Heart of Missouri United Way Campaign, a member of the Council on Student Affairs for the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), a representative to the Greek Knowledge Community on behalf of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the president of the board of directors of the Voluntary Action Center, and a member of the education committee of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband, Stuart, have two daughters, Sarah and Julia. Both are Mizzou students.
