Office of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement reports to the Dean of Students and provides involvement opportunities, leadership training and volunteer experiences with an emphasis on developing transferable skills for future employment. Programs include the Women’s Leadership Conference, Emerging Leaders, Mizzou Alternative Breaks and Caring for Columbia. The office advises student government and is the central campus resource for recognized student organizations.

What We Do

Promote Involvement

Students who are involved have higher graduation rates, better verbal communication skills, problem-solving skills and decision-making skills. Research shows they work better in teams, find and evaluate information better, and are more likely to stay in college than those who are uninvolved. Mizzou offers a multitude of opportunities to get involved. We even have involvement ambassadors available for one-on-one consultations and group presentations. Request a consultation today.

Provide Leadership Development

Understanding your own talents, strengths, leadership style, skills, and social identities is critical to your development during college. The Social Change Model provides a blueprint for developing new leadership skills and understanding the skills that you already possess. Our leadership development programs are designed with this in mind.

Practice Active Citizenship

Being an active citizen means making your community a high priority in your life. Voting, volunteering, and organizing to effect change in the world are just a few examples of what it means to be an active citizen. We offer a variety of service programs to give you opportunities to practice active citizenship.

Transition Involvement to Career

It's easy to list clubs and activities on your resume, but employers want to hear about the skills you learned through these experiences, and how those will transition into the workplace. We will help you articulate how your involvement experience gives you an edge after college.
