Housing and Dining Affordability Initiative

New, lower cost housing options will be available for students in more than one-third of available rooms.

Overview of changes

  • Lowering base rates 2.2 percent ($150) for 1,320 beds in community-style double rooms
  • Lowering rates 5 percent ($340) for 464 beds in double rooms in Hatch Hall to provide a new economy housing option
  • All other base rates will stay flat
  • In response to feedback from students, adding an option for students to live in select halls year-round
  • Adding a new economy dining plan (Block 150)
  • Adding a new, flexible dining plan that works at all locations (including Student Center) (Tiger Plan Platinum)
  • Eliminating dining plan requirement for returning students (still required for first-time college students)
  • Replacing Block 175 and 225 dining plans with Block 200 plan to better meet student actual needs

Outcomes

  • Lowering the cost of education with an overall 3.5 percent ($350) reduction on the most commonly chosen plan
  • Students will be able to live and eat on campus for less than $1,000/month
  • Room rates starting at $714/month (includes utilities, internet, cable, laundry, cleaning), nearly $350 less than the least expensive option in the current year
  • Dining plans starting at $283/month, nearly $300 less than the smallest plan available in the current year
  • Year-round housing will provide convenient, hassle-free living for our students
