The Area Coordinator for Residential Education provides leadership in all matters pertaining to students’ academic success and personal development. Creates residential experiences that enhance the development of students and their persistence. Oversees all logistical aspects of the FIGs/TRIGs program.

Position Description

Academic Support and Partnerships

  • Provides leadership and strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of residentially-based academic communities including Freshmen Interest Groups (FIGs), living-learning communities, faculty-in-residence, and other programs intentionally designed to promote student learning and contribute to retention and academic success. Provides long-range vision for the continued growth and evolution of all residentially-based initiatives. Seeks and nurtures collaborative partnerships with colleagues.

Departmental Assessment

  • Directs all assessment for all of Residential Life. Provides assessment summaries and recommendations for multiple units within Residential Life. Directs department assessment plan in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs Planning and Assessment Consultant. Provides guidance in assessment processes including, but not limited to, course evaluations, focus groups, surveys, pre/posttests, etc. Provides support in overall evidence-based quality improvements in Residential Life.

Residential Education

  • Directs the development of a residentially-based educational programming model to meet the identified learning goals set by the Dean of Students and Provost. Creates an environment for student learning and growth through specific learning goals and outcomes and enhanced partnerships with faculty and academic partners. Additionally, evaluates facility needs to maximize educational spaces. Partners in efforts focused on strategic planning, development, implementation and evaluation of FIGs and living-learning environments. Facilitates programs and services that enhance retention.
    Residential Life, Administration & Management – Directs the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of a staff of four to six Residence Hall Coordinators and four student staff members. Promotes and encourages staff professional development and involvement in relevant professional associations.
