Supporting students’ continued success.

Student Emergency Fund

Student Emergency Fund

Students are not just the center of everything we do, they are the driving force of it. That’s why we believe that unexpected and immediate financial needs should not hold Tigers back from getting their education.

That’s where the Student Emergency Fund comes in. In the event of an emergency, students can apply to receive aid through this fund or receive additional financial assistance through the Student Financial Aid Office.

How to Apply

  1. Submit the application and supporting documentation.
  2. A member of the MU Care Team will contact you about scheduling a meeting with a Care Coordinator to discuss your application.
  3. A minimum qualification review will occur as a preliminary step. This includes a review of other potential resources to meet your needs.
  4. If minimum qualifications are met and there are no other potential resources, the request will be evaluated for approval.
  5. Applicants will be notified once a decision is made.
  6. If approved, payments may be made directly to vendors and outside parties.

About the Fund

The goal of this fund is to prevent emergencies or unexpected expenses from derailing a student’s Mizzou journey. Take note of the following:

  • The maximum amount of funds that can be received is $250, except in extenuating circumstances, approved by the Dean of Students.
  • Funds distributed when sufficient funding is available.
  • Funds must support a student’s critical, basic needs.
  • Students may only receive Student Emergency Funds once.
  • An application does not guarantee funds will be received.
  • Approval is based on eligibility and supporting documentation being available.

What is (and isn't) covered?

Funds can be accessed for, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Replacement of personal belongings due to an emergency.

  • Safety related needs (i.e., changing a lock).

Other emergency financial needs that will impact a student’s ability to be successful at MU will be evaluated on an individualized basis.

  • Tuition, fees or related student account balances
  • Insurance
  • Non-essential utilities, like cable
  • Cell phone bills
  • Costs of entertainment, recreation or non-emergency travel
